Let’s go over the basic rules of Ludo and learn how to play it online like a pro.
Understanding the Basics
The objective of the Game
The primary goal in the Ludo board game is to move all four of your tokens from the starting area to the home column in the center of the board before your opponents do.
The Board
A standard Ludo board consists of four colored sections: red, blue, yellow, and green. Each player selects a color and gets four tokens of that color. The board features a cross-shaped path with each arm containing three columns of squares and a safe zone where tokens are safe from being captured.
Dice and Movement
Ludo is played with a single six-sided die. Players take turns rolling the die and moving their tokens according to the number rolled.
How to Play Ludo Online
Setup
- Choosing Players: Online Ludo can be played with 2-4 players. You can invite friends or play with random opponents.
- Selecting Colors: Each player selects a color (red, blue, yellow, or green).
- Starting the Game: The game begins once all players have joined and selected their colors. A random player is chosen to roll the die first.
Game Rules
- Rolling a Six: To move a token out of the starting area, you must roll a six. Once a token is out, you can start moving it around the board.
- Rolling the Dice: Each player rolls the die once per turn and moves one of their tokens according to the number rolled. Rolling a six allows you to roll again. However, if you roll six three times in a row, your turn is forfeited.
- Movement: Tokens move clockwise around the board based on the die roll. You can move any of your tokens that are on the board.
- Capturing Opponent’s Token: If your token lands on a square occupied by an opponent’s token, the opponent’s token is sent back to its starting area.
- Safe Zones: Safe zones are colored squares on the board where tokens cannot be captured.
- Entering Home Column: Once a token has completed a circuit of the board, it enters the home column. You need the exact number on the die to move a token into the home space.
- Winning the Game: The first player to move all four tokens into the home space wins the game.
